Dyslexia Intervention

Dyslexia Intervention

Dyslexia intervention is highly individualized and based on a child’s unique profile.  The instructional approach is multisensory, explicit, systematic, diagnostic, and prescriptive, and is often referred to as Orton-Gillingham instruction or Structured Literacy.  This approach ensures that students build their skills in each of the components of literacy:

  • Phonemic awareness
  • Sound-symbol association
  • Syllable instruction
  • Decoding (word reading)
  • Encoding (spelling)
  • Morphology (prefixes, suffixes, bases and roots)
  • Syntax (sentence structure)
  • Semantics (word meaning)

Structured Literacy sessions are provided both in-person at the Language & Literacy Clinic or on Zoom.  Lessons are generally 45 to 60 minutes in length; 30-minute sessions are available for younger children as needed.  Parents may be asked to follow through with additional home practice activities to provide necessary repetition for learning.
